Agatha Raisin's detective agency has become so successful that now all she wants is some R&R. But as soon as she cuts back her hours, Agatha remembers that when she has too much quality time, she doesn't know what to do with it. So it doesn't take much for the vicar of a nearby village to persuade her to help publicize the church fete, especially when the fair's organizer, George Selby, happens to be a gorgeous widower. The problem is that several of the offerings in the jam-tasting booth turn out to be poisoned, and the festive family event soon becomes a murder scene. Now Agatha must uncover the truth behind the jam tampering and expose the nasty secrets lurking in the seemingly innocent village - all while falling for handsome George, who just may have some secrets of his own.
MY REVIEW:

Agatha just can’t say no to Mrs. Bloxby! The vicar of a neighbouring village, Arthur Chance, is holding a fete for charity. He approaches Mrs. Bloxby to ask if she would do her “Christian duty” and ask Mrs. Raisin if she would work her PR magic to draw a crowd to the event. Don’t you hate it when people lay a guilt trip on you? Agatha doesn’t want to disappoint Mrs. Bloxby or to make her appear in a negative light, so she agrees to -- at the very least -- meet with Arthur. Agatha gets goggle-eyed over one of the parishioners, George Selby, who is handsome and widowed and just happens to be helping Arthur with the organization of the fete. Well, Agatha just can’t say no now! At the event, there is a suspicious line-up of teenagers outside the jam tent who come out looking dazed and stoned. Then old Mrs. Andrews thinks she can fly and jumps off a roof and another woman, Mrs. Jessop, jumps into the river. Two other villagers have heart attacks. Someone has drugged the jam, but why? Arthur Chance hires Agatha to solve the case and Toni works alongside her boss. Agatha’s jealousy gets the better of her, and she begins to resent Toni’s knack for her detective work. She wonders how Toni would fare without her, and she ends up pushing Toni out the door when she actually suggests that Toni set up her own agency. Agatha firmly believes that she will fail, but Harry Beam steps in and provides financial assistance to help the agency get off the ground. In the end, there is a moment between Agatha and Toni and Agatha reveals her affection for Toni when she thought that she was in danger. It’s a very sweet moment, and I love when Beaton throws these in to remind us of how caring Agatha really is.

There is a warm friendship between Toni Gilmour and Bill Wong but, unfortunately, no sparks. It is such a shame, because Bill’s parents actually love Toni!

Agatha still refuses to believe that she is in need of a hip replacement. For now, she’s had an injection and feels like a new woman but that won’t last forever.

Agatha has reverted back to being man-crazy in this one. She is so funny, and I find this series so entertaining.

I am still missing narrator, Penelope Keith! Donada Peters (a.k.a. Wanda McCaddon, who narrated the last installment) was, once again, the narrator for this book. The audiobooks just aren’t the same without Penelope Keith.

MY RATING:
4 stars! It was really good, and you should put it on your TBR list if you enjoy cozy mysteries!
